The Grip
The Grip is an add-on home studio
that was built in 2006 by songwriter and producer Jay
DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts. Located in the fashionable
Green Hills district of southern Nashville, Audio One
Nashville installed this professional facility with
a custom made studio that fits DeMarcus’ needs.
A Sound Construction desk holds
the Pro Control with an expanded Apple G5-based Pro
Tools HD rig. A Neve 8816 summing mixer was also installed
for a classic analog sound. Outboard equipment includes
multiple API modules, Universal Audio’s LA3A,
the Focusrite Liquid Channel, Empirical Lab’s
Distressor and pieces by Avalon, Demeter, Crane Song,
Apogee, Tube Tech and AMEK.
A unique note to point out
is in the drum room, which holds a remote display with
a keyboard and trackball on a rolling stand. This enables
DeMarcus to do his own engineering while he is playing.
Jeffery Steele
Famed singer/songwriter/producer
Jeffery Steele installed a writing studio in the summer
2006. This studio houses an Icon D-Command Console including
a DigiDelivery system.
JD Rooney's Panic Room
 |
| Panic Room |
The Panic Room was designed, equipped
and installed by Audio One for ace guitar player Joe
Don Rooney of Rascal Flatts for his personal production
work. Joe Don Rooney runs The Panic Room from a Digidesign
Control 24 in a custom Sound Construction console running
a HD3 which also includes a 6 slot Expansion Chassis
for more firepower.
Also in The Panic Room are an Aviom
cue system, Apogee Big Ben, and various outboard gear
by Neve, Universal Audio, Martech, Avalon, Tube Tech,
and SPL, power by Richard Gray and Monster. Microphones
include a good mix of Neumann’s Royers and Shures.
Monitoring is through a BM-15A, NHT sub woofer system
with Meyer and Ashley processing.
Being a guitar player Joe Don
also has a variety of well-loved guitars and amps so
the studio is always ready for a song writing session.
The isolation booth of this very high-end and compact
facility serves the dual purpose of vocal booth and
tuned amp closet. Lots of glass and sophisticated lighting
provide an unusually comfortable working environment. The
Panic Room was built by Carl Tatz Design
