Drive-Thru Pro Tools Installations?

That's what it seemed like on Thursday, July 22nd, 2004 in Nashville, Tennessee. Audio One was just winding down their week long open house leading up to the Summer NAMM show, which highlighted their exclusive distribution on the Digidesign D-Control surface, when a phone call from Rap star "Juvenile" came in. He decided to stop by the Audio One office with his brand new Prevost tour bus and wanted the team at Audio One to install a mobile recording studio in the back of the bus. Now this is something Audio One has done time and time again. Juvenile knows this, so that's why he decided to come, but there was a catch with this install ... Juvenile had to be in Oklahoma in 24 hours!

Audio One's Jason Finley explains the dynamic, "We usually like more than four or five minutes to plan a system, especially on a tour bus! Juvenile's engineer, Dave , called me and we discussed gear and track counts they needed. As this was going on I looked out the window and his bus had pulled up before I could even print the invoice! We had to figure out how to mount a G5, a pair of new Genelec 8040 monitors, Digidesign interfaces, and all of the other pieces in the back of a tour bus. We needed to mount them in a way that all of the pieces wouldn't fly around as the bus was driving down the road. While Audio One was configuring all of the software, plug-ins, and hardware, White Noise Technologies came up with some creative ways to run wiring — such as VGA to one of the bus's three pre-installed plasma displays in addition to a flat-screen. Dave threw some last minute challenges at us, but we gott'er done, and they made the show in Oklahoma."

Juvenile will be able to record for his next album wherever he tours. When all work was completed, Audio One and White Noise Technologies installed and wired the entire studio in 13 hours.

"It was one of our more interesting installs." says Frank Conway, General Manager of Audio One. — "The guys had to work in an area that was about 4ft by 4ft square! There were times when three or four people were all in this space at once. It took a lot of professionalism to complete a job like this in the time allotted. I give the compliments to the guys in the office. In my eyes, no other team could have done it.
